Kick Start KCBO
Throughout the business-building process, Black business owners face economic, market, sociocultural, and institutional barriers, which are all linked to racial discrimination in the United States. A recent study by Harvard (2023) asserts that Black entrepreneurs are less likely than their white peers to have exposure and access to lucrative business opportunities.
Consumers and Entrepreneurs have the opportunity to come together and alter this narrative. Read below for specifics.
Have a brick and mortar? Want to add your business at no charge?
Crucially, Black entrepreneurs struggle more to secure capital and access to credit. Even with strong personal credit, Black business owners and other entrepreneurs from marginalized groups are about half as likely as their white counterparts to receive full financing. Friends and family may not be able to contribute capital either (Harvard, 2023).
Consumers, did you know that Black-owned businesses lag substantially behind white-owned businesses in sales, profits, employment, and survival? Purchasing a keychain will enable you as the consumer to invest money into participating businesses in KC.
