Why Should I Join KC Black Owned?

According to Pew Research, more than half of Black Americans believe that supporting Black businesses, or buying Black, is important in propelling Black people closer to equality here in the U.S.

Chelsey, KC Black Owned (KCBO) founder, shares this belief and knows that Black business owners are grossly underrepresented in the U.S.. Determined to help Black business owners in her new home, Kansas City, Missouri, Chelsey created a space for local Black businesses in the metro area to make connections, expand businesses networks and maximize customer reach.

Why Join KCBO?

As a member of KC Black Owned, your business will have access to resources that will help you and your business reach full potential. Because we believe strongly that diversity enriches communities, we work hard to offer opportunities that underrepresented business owners do not have ready access to.

KCBO Connects Customers to Your Business

Black business owners were barely on stable ground before the pandemic and COVID-19 has brought about catastrophic effects for many businesses. KC Black Owned recognizes that marketing and visibility is essential to the success of many Black owned businesses in Kansas City. Because of this, we have created a space where customers can easily find your products or services without requiring you to shell out money for expensive SEO and marketing experts.

As a KC Black Owned member, your business will be listed and linked to our Black owned business directory. This directory helps connect customers to you so they can find your services.

Connecting Your Business to the Community

We believe strongly here at KC Black Owned that diversity enriches communities. Our mission is to locate, support and highlight Black owned business in the Kansas City metro area.

As a part of our network, your business will have an opportunity to be highlighted in KCTV5 Representation Matters LIVE, where a business owner is selected to go live each Thursday. This opportunity increases community visibility, customer outreach and can give you the opportunity to share with your community what your business is all about.

Closing the Gap

Helping Black owned businesses succeed will help close the racial wealth gap but a notable barrier for Black business owners is a lack of mentors willing to help those seeking entrepreneurship. KCBO knows how difficult it can be to connect to mentors and other people who are willing to help you avoid making costly mistakes.

As a member, you will secure an invitation to our quarterly network events that are designed to help you find and connect with people that will help your business grow.

These events are not only designed to meet networking needs for businesses that are 1-5 years old, but we also aim to provide additional opportunities for businesses that may be in need. Our events are multidimensional and include various services helpful to businesses like discounted  photos for products, a workshop on writing grants, professional headshots, a wedding market and so much more.
